Opening Event: Alicia McDaid: mcdazzler is dead

Is there life after shadowban? In mcdazzler is dead Alicia McDaid and her social media persona @mcdazzler bring “two girls one cup terrorism aesthetic” realness to Practice Space Gallery with a live performance series and photo/ video installation featuring photos made in collaboration with digital artist Alicia Gordon. In an attempt to deconstruct a persona that was created in defiance of the notion that one must constantly advertise their identity online, McDaid wonders if she has become a mockery of herself when she realizes the algorithms have left her behind after a decade of community guidelines violations. Is mcdazzler’s commitment to social media disobedience really a battle cry of resistance or just a cloaking device to scare off prospective romantic interests and employers?

A durational opening performance begins at 7pm on Friday March 1.
